USU Rector: 232 Professors Expected to Strengthen University's National and International Impact
Medan (ANTARA) — Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) currently has 232 active professors from various disciplines of knowledge, whose presence is expected to help realise a university with impact at both national and international levels.
“Alhamdulillah, we currently have 232 professors, including five who were officially inaugurated today,” said USU Rector Prof Muryanto Amin in Medan on Tuesday, at the inauguration ceremony of five professors from various faculties.
The five newly inaugurated professors are Prof Susilawati (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences), Prof Evi Karota Bukit (Faculty of Nursing), Prof Mazdalifah (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences), Prof Putri Chairani Eyanoer (Faculty of Medicine) and Prof Rusdi Noor Rosa (Faculty of Cultural Sciences).
He said the inauguration of professors held today was not merely a ceremony, but far more than that.
The ceremony represents a foundation and hope for the emergence of a professor as an academic leader who holds a moral and intellectual mandate to safeguard the quality of scholarship, direct the implementation of the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tridarma Perguruan Tinggi), and ensure the university delivers real impact for society.
“The next important task is to fulfil our collective responsibility to strengthen the quality of academic staff resources, accelerate the transformation of the Tridarma, expand scholarly networks, and ensure Universitas Sumatera Utara stands as a university with impact at both national and international levels,” he said.
The rector went on to say that the contribution of professors at every university in providing solutions according to their expertise is a highly important indicator, even one that determines the reputation of their institution.
The development of knowledge and all the variations needed to adapt to globally occurring changes at a very rapid pace requires strong epistemic values from a professor.
“Thus, it is entirely possible that a professor’s expertise no longer rests only at the philosophical level, which appears abstract, but has reached the axiological or applied level. More detailed findings are needed to ensure that abstract thinking is adopted into concrete decisions,” he said.
