USK and Guangdong Ocean University Strengthen AI-Based Research Collaboration

Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) Banda Aceh is strengthening its global collaboration and network with China’s Guangdong Ocean University (GDOU) in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI)-based research and marine science. USK Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnerships, and Business, Dr Ramzi Adriman, stated that the collaboration represents a shared commitment to building an academic partnership oriented towards research, innovation, and international-standard human resource development. He explained that USK and GDOU possess complementary strengths, particularly in marine science, fisheries, environmental sustainability, and the blue economy. ‘Going forward, we also want to expand collaboration into computer science, artificial intelligence, data science, and engineering as drivers of future innovation,’ Dr Ramzi said. He assessed that the integration of AI technology will make a significant contribution to the management of marine resources, smart fisheries, and disaster mitigation. GDOU Vice President Prof. Deng Fengguang stated that the cooperation will enter a new, more strategic phase, encompassing food science, animal science, engineering, and artificial intelligence. ‘We see Universitas Syiah Kuala as a strategic partner in Southeast Asia. Together with USK, we want to develop cooperation that supports national development strategies through research in the Indian Ocean, Malacca Strait, and South China Sea, including the Natuna Islands region,’ Prof. Deng said. The meeting also resulted in agreement on several key points, including the development of a marine ranching project, LUBAN Workshop and Mandarin Language Centre at both campuses, as well as AI-based research in sea rice agriculture and smart fisheries.
