The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is accelerating the construction of the People’s School of Central Java Province 1 in Wlahar Village, Larangan District, Brebes Regency, by adopting a steel structure construction method for part of the building. This approach is expected to significantly reduce the structural work duration from around 180 days to approximately 48 days. The acceleration aims to meet the project completion target in June 2026, before the new academic year begins in July. Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo stated that the construction of People’s School Phase II is a government priority programme to enhance human resource quality through the provision of adequate and modern educational facilities. “The construction of all People’s Schools in Phase II must be ensured to be fully completed in June, before the new academic year in July,” said Dody, quoted on Wednesday (06/05/2026). In addition to implementing steel structures, the acceleration is achieved through increased lifting equipment capacity and material mobilisation, additional workforce, and a two-shift work system. To support smooth material distribution, the construction of logistics access via a Bailey bridge is also being expedited. In the initial phase, the project faced several technical challenges on site, including high rainfall and limited material distribution access to the location. Nevertheless, the Ministry of Public Works affirms it will continue to oversee the construction of the People’s School to ensure timely completion with good quality. The construction of the People’s School in Brebes is funded through the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) for the 2025-2026 Fiscal Year with a contract value of Rp 244.69 billion. The project is executed by the KSO WIKA-WEGE-APIK consortium with construction management support from ARSS Baru KSO PT Intimulya Multikencana. The scope of work includes building an integrated educational complex with a total building area of 27,372 square metres. Facilities to be built include primary school, junior high school, and senior high school buildings, student dormitories, teacher apartments, canteen, mosque, multipurpose room, as well as sports facilities and area infrastructure. The presence of these facilities is expected to support equitable access to decent education, particularly in Brebes Regency and surrounding areas.
