Using Corruptors' Funds, Prabowo Aims to Provide Free Schooling and University Education
President Prabowo Subianto has ensured that his administration is committed to making education costs in Indonesia free, ranging from primary school (SD) to higher education.
“I will immediately hold a cabinet meeting; essentially, public education costs must be free,” said Prabowo at the JICC last weekend, as reported on Wednesday (23/09/2026).
The Head of State stated that the government possesses the capacity to make educational access affordable for all Indonesian citizens, up to the university level.
He mentioned that the funds to realise this policy could originate from the money of corruptors that has been successfully reclaimed by the government.
“The costs for public education—primary, junior high, senior high, and state universities—must be free. Eventually, people will ask, ‘Where will the money come from?’ The money will come from what was corrupted, what was embezzled, and what was stolen,” Prabowo said.
The Cabinet Secretary, Teddy Indra Wijaya, stated that this free education policy stems from the state’s view that every Indonesian child deserves an equal opportunity to build their future through education.
“Every Indonesian child, from any family and background, has the right to receive a proper education and an equal opportunity to build their future,” the Cabinet Secretary’s statement read.
To achieve this goal, the government is accelerating several measures. In addition to striving for free public education from primary to higher education, the government is also continuously repairing schools and damaged educational facilities so that children can learn in a safe and proper environment.
“Repairing schools and damaged educational facilities, so that children can learn safely and decently,” said Teddy.
According to Teddy, attention is also being directed towards improving the welfare and salaries of teachers as a vital part of the effort to enhance the quality of national education.
Teddy emphasised that, for Prabowo, human resource development is a crucial investment for the nation’s future. Therefore, education is placed as one of the foundations for forming an Indonesian people that is strong, superior, and possesses the opportunity to achieve their ambitions.
“Because the future of Indonesia begins in today’s classrooms,” concluded the Cabinet Secretary.
