A number of Transjabodetabek users hope the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and the West Java Provincial Government can work together to keep fares for the public transport service affordable for the community. “If possible, don’t let it increase. It’s the cheapest transport,” said one Transjabodetabek user, Anggi (33), at Blok M Terminal, South Jakarta, on Thursday. She admitted to being worried if the fare for the service connecting Jakarta with its buffer zones were to increase in the future. She said she uses Transjakarta services quite often to support her daily mobility. According to her, a fare increase would add to the public’s expenditure burden, especially for those who depend on public transport for work and other activities. “What’s worrying is that it will just add to transport costs,” Anggi said. For this reason, she supports cooperation between the DKI Jakarta and West Java provincial governments in managing the Transjabodetabek service, considering that public transport remains an essential need for people who commute across regions. “I agree with cooperation, because transport is still somewhat difficult,” Anggi stated. Another user, Heri, who currently enjoys the free fare facility for the elderly, also believes public transport fares must remain affordable to support public mobility and reduce the use of private vehicles. “Even though I am elderly, I do not agree if the fare goes up. I feel sorry for those under 50 because they still pay the regular fare,” Heri expressed. He therefore hopes the government can continue to provide subsidies and keep fares stable amidst various public transport financing challenges. “I hope it stays flat, pity the others,” Heri stressed. Transjabodetabek is a transport mode connecting Jakarta with several buffer areas, including West Java, making inter-regional cooperation considered important to ensure service sustainability and fare affordability for users. The Transjabodetabek fare is currently still in the discussion stage of adjustment, with a potential range of Rp10,000 to Rp15,000. Additionally, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is also preparing a maximum integration fare scheme of Rp10,000 for people using more than one mode of public transport.
