User Awareness Key to Protecting Crypto Assets, Says Indodax
The security of crypto assets is determined not only by technological sophistication but also by user awareness in safeguarding personal information and recognising various forms of digital fraud. Indodax is encouraging improved digital security literacy so that users can transact more safely and confidently.
Indodax Chief Information Security Officer Ledy stated that the pattern of threats in the crypto asset ecosystem has shifted. Previously, perpetrators mostly attempted to breach platform security systems, but now they tend to exploit social engineering to influence users.
“Many people still assume the biggest threat comes from hacking exchange systems. In fact, in several recent cases, perpetrators gained access because victims unknowingly provided important information or clicked on dangerous links resembling official services,” Ledy said in a press release on Wednesday.
A NordStellar report noted that discussions about Deepfake-as-a-Service (DFaaS) on dark web forums increased by approximately 39 percent between January and May 2026 compared to the same period the previous year. This condition underscores the importance of user vigilance as digital technology evolves.
Furthermore, the development of AI voice cloning allows for the creation of voice replicas that increasingly resemble the original owner. Therefore, users are urged to make a habit of verifying before trusting any requests related to digital accounts or assets.
Ledy said that perpetrators have also begun utilising fake advertisements on social media, manipulating internet search results, and impersonating customer service through instant messaging applications.
“At Indodax, we do not have an official WhatsApp Customer Support number. All services can only be accessed through official company phone numbers, email, or channels. Therefore, the public needs to get into the habit of verifying and even conducting independent research (DYOR) in digesting information before making decisions,” said Ledy.
According to Ledy, security technology must be balanced with good user habits, such as maintaining the confidentiality of personal data, verifying information, and not making hasty decisions.
“Platforms can provide various layers of security systems. However, ultimately, every decision remains in the hands of the user. Because of that, we always remind the public not to trust easily and to always verify before providing information or making decisions related to digital assets,” Ledy said.
Indodax believes that education regarding social engineering, phishing, deepfakes, and digital identity misuse needs to be continuously strengthened so that the public is better prepared to face technological developments and can utilise crypto assets more safely.
