Used paper
Used paper
dumped in Depok
From Bisnis Indonesia
Hundreds of tons of used paper are dumped every day in front
of the Tirta Mandala housing complex gate in Depok, Bogor.
Now the housing complex looks like a slum area as hills of
brown paper waste bedeck both sides of the gateway. During the
rainy season undoubtedly these 'hills' will cause floods and
traffic jams.
However, not a single community leader has shown the guts to
question this practice, let alone stop the action. This fact has
puzzled residents.
One truck driver said that he brought the used paper from a
factory located at Jl. Margonda Raya, Depok, Bogor. And he said
he did not understand why the waste had to be dumped in front of
a residential gateway. He claimed to be merely acting on the
instructions of his superiors.
This is obviously not in line with the government's "Save and
Care for Our Environment" campaign. The waste has turned our
scenic and green residential area into a polluted and messy
cesspool.
Should we invite the Minister of Environment to have a look?
