Used Diesel Car Prices Begin to Correct
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The used diesel car market is starting to face pressure due to the increase in diesel fuel prices.
Zidan from Salman Auto Mobilindo said that currently, young-year diesel cars such as the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Toyota Fortuner are being sold in large numbers by their owners.
“Diesel cars from recent years like the Pajero and Fortuner are now being sold a lot in the market. Naturally, with more sellers, the prices are dropping,” he told Kompas.com on Tuesday (12/5/2026).
“Users, the owners. In the Pajero and Fortuner car groups, there are now many being sold. Naturally, the cars in the market are increasing,” he said.
Zidan estimated that the current decline in used diesel car prices is around 10 per cent. However, traders are more selective when buying used diesel units because they fear slower turnover.
“10 per cent might be there. Well, what’s the point if there are many sellers but no buyers? We look for cars that still have a lot of demand in the market,” he said.
“For example, one that we usually take for Rp 300 million, if someone offers Rp 300 million again, we don’t dare to take it. Pajero Sport 2016. Previously, we were still willing to take Pajero 2016-2018, now in 2023 we’re still thinking,” said Rudi.
According to him, the unstable market conditions make traders choose to hold back on buying diesel units, especially if the offered price is still high.
Meanwhile, Singgih, the owner of Willies Mobil in Depok, West Java, said that the market change started to be felt since the diesel fuel price increase.
In fact, according to him, the old generation Chevrolet Captiva diesel can still use Biosolar. However, the sentiment of rising fuel prices makes consumers more worried about purchasing used diesel cars.
“In fact, the 2010 diesel car can still use Biosolar. But now there’s fear from consumers due to the effect of this fuel price increase,” he said.
“Previously, I opened the price at Rp 90 million, even once opened at Rp 95 million. Now it’s down to Rp 85 million,” said Singgih.
