Used Daihatsu Gran Max Vehicles Flood the Market, Highly Sought After for MBG Operations

The used car sales centre at WTC Mangga Dua in North Jakarta is not only teeming with second-hand Toyota Avanzas but also features a plentiful supply of used Daihatsu Gran Max vehicles. According to traders at WTC Mangga Dua, the stock of used Gran Max models is quite abundant. Variants range from minibuses to blind vans, with the minibus variant being the most common. Traders report that interest in the Gran Max is currently high, especially for operational vehicles. One such trader, Ronald, is selling three units of Gran Max, with production years varying from 2016 to 2019. “We have three Gran Max units for sale, including a younger 2019 model and the oldest from 2016,” Ronald told CNBC Indonesia on Sunday (26/4/2026). Prices include Rp108 million for a 2016 1.5-litre Gran Max, Rp110 million for a 2017 model, and Rp141 million for a 2021 blind van. However, availability of the Gran Max blind van is limited at present due to strong demand. “For the blind van version, which has windows only in the front seats, there aren’t many units around right now; interest is high,” he said. Another seller, Bagas, also noted numerous customers seeking these vehicles, particularly the blind van variant. “Yes, many are looking for them, especially the blind van, and units are hard to come by here,” Bagas said. Although the blind van variant is popular, the minibus version also sells well. “The full-glass version (minibus variant) sells too, but the blind van is more in demand,” Bagas added. Bagas further explained that many customers are purchasing the Gran Max blind van for operational purposes, though he did not specify the exact use. “They say it’s for operational vehicles, perhaps for the MBG (Makan Bergizi Gratis) kitchen operations, but I’m not entirely sure,” he clarified.
