Used Car Market Rises: Innova, Avanza, Xpander Become Mudik Must-Haves

Jakarta – Ahead of the Lebaran mudik season, the used car market is beginning to show signs of activity. Several dealers have acknowledged an increase in demand, particularly for seven-seater models which are considered most suitable for long-distance family trips.

Thung Andi Supriyadi, owner of Rendani Mobil, stated that this year’s sales trends are stronger than the same period last year. According to him, the most noticeable increase is in the three-row vehicle segment.

“Three-row vehicles, Innova, Xpander, and Avanza—those are the most sought-after as mudik approaches,” said Andi.

Models such as the Toyota Innova, Toyota Avanza, and Mitsubishi Xpander are cited as the backbone of sales. Even in the ladder-frame SUV segment, the Toyota Fortuner has seen increased demand due to its capacity and durability across various terrains.

Similarly, Agus, owner of Focus Motor, noted that whilst demand has increased, the rise has not been significant.

“The situation isn’t rising significantly, but there is indeed a slight increase,” said Agus. He added that the pattern of demand has not changed much compared to previous years.

“In the used car market, what’s experiencing growth is the vehicles that are popular as usual—vehicles like Innova, Avanza, Fortuner, three-row vehicles in essence,” he explained.

Beyond their ability to accommodate an entire family along with luggage, these models are also known for their durability and ease of maintenance. The extensive service network and availability of spare parts instil consumer confidence in using them for intercity travel during the mudik season.
