Use zebra crossings!

One of the safest places to cross a road is at a clearly
marked zebra crossing. But pedestrians are not the only road
users that have to be disciplined. Motorists should also have a
high sense of discipline. In Jakarta the number of zebra
crossings is adequate and are usually found near busy
intersections, schools and markets, etc.

However, my observation is that zebra crossings are not very
effective. Most drivers are not aware of the purposes of these
road signs. They hardly slow down their cars when approaching the
zebra crossings even though they see some pedestrians are waiting
to cross the road. So zebra crossings have not fully served their
purpose.

It is necessary to make both pedestrians and motorists more
aware of the real function of zebra crossings.
