US$545,000 for accident victims

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: The Kupang branch of state-owned insurance company PT Jasa Raharja awarded last year Rp 1.3 billion (US$545,000) in insurance claims to 1,202 traffic accident victims in the provinces of East Nusa Tenggara and East Timor.

Branch head Juragan Sitorus told Antara Thursday the accidents left 403 dead, 775 injured and 24 permanently disabled.

Juragan said Rp 1.05 billion ($439,882) was presented to the relatives of the 403 deceased, while the 775 injured and 24 disabled received Rp 168.4 million ($70,550) and Rp 80.16 million ($33,581) respectively.

"In keeping with our company's policy, we provide Rp 2 million plus medical expenses to each of the victims," he said. (01)
