United States (US) Vice President JD Vance issued a stern warning to Iran as the two countries exchanged fresh attacks over the weekend. Vance publicly cautioned that Tehran would face ‘violence’ if it launched further strikes. ‘Iran has signed a ceasefire agreement. We have adhered to it. If they have differences of opinion regarding the implementation of the MoU (memorandum of understanding), they can contact us,’ Vance said in a statement via social media platform X, as reported by AFP on Saturday (27/6/2026). The US Vice President was referring to the MoU to halt the war that has raged for the past four months, which was signed by the US and Iran on 17 June. ‘However, violence will be met with violence,’ Vance stressed in his statement. The warning came after US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced late Friday night (26/6) that US forces had targeted Iranian missile and drone storage sites, as well as coastal radar positions, in the latest strikes. CENTCOM asserted the strikes were a response to ‘unprovoked aggression by Iranian forces against commercial shipping’ that ‘clearly violated the ceasefire’. ‘A decisive response to yesterday’s attack on a commercial vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz,’ CENTCOM stressed in its statement. Minutes after the CENTCOM announcement, Iranian state television reported on Saturday (27/6) morning Tehran time that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had targeted US military positions in various areas of the Gulf in retaliation for the latest American strikes. ‘If the aggression is repeated, our response will be broader than this,’ the IRGC warned. The exchange of strikes raises new questions about efforts to keep the Strait of Hormuz open amid ongoing talks between the US and Iran to reach a final settlement to the war that began on 28 February. Iran Warns Latest US Strikes Will Lead to Regret Ibrahim Azizi, who serves as Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission in the Iranian parliament, accused the US of having ‘once again attacked Iran in the midst of negotiations’. He subsequently labelled US President Donald Trump a ‘failed’ president. ‘The failed US president has shown that he has no commitment to the principles of negotiation or ceasefire,’ Azizi said. ‘This reckless ceasefire violation, as usual, will lead to setbacks and regret for their side,’ he stressed. ‘Blame-shifting tactics no longer work,’ Azizi added. Azizi’s statement was believed to be a response to Trump’s condemnation of what he called an Iranian drone attack on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz. ‘Clearly, this is a foolish violation of our ceasefire agreement,’ he stated via Truth Social.
