Washington (ANTARA) - US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has reaffirmed American plans to deploy weapons in outer space through the Golden Dome missile project.

“Golden Dome for America, a revolutionary initiative comprising space-based weapons and sensors, a focused constellation of next-generation sensors and satellites that will detect every threat from every corner of the world,” Hegseth said in his speech in Colorado.

In May, US President Donald Trump launched the Golden Dome project, which is estimated to cost nearly US$175 billion (approximately Rp2.94 quadrillion).

The multi-layered defence initiative will integrate ground, sea and space systems to protect the United States from missile threats. The first major trial is reportedly scheduled for late 2028.

However, Bloomberg news agency reported that, according to expert assessments, Golden Dome would cost US$1.1 trillion (approximately Rp18.5 quadrillion).
