US Vice President Warns Iran to Take Threat of Military Action Seriously
US Vice President JD Vance has warned Iran to take the threat of military action from Washington “seriously.” This was conveyed a day after US President Donald Trump appeared to make the case for war in his State of the Union address.
With US forces deployed in the Middle East, Trump claimed in his speech to Congress on Tuesday that Iran is developing missiles capable of reaching the United States.
Trump also accused Tehran of having “evil nuclear ambitions” and of trying to rebuild its nuclear program, which was targeted in a US attack last year.
It is known that the US and Iran will resume talks on Iran’s nuclear program on Thursday (February 26th) local time. Vance said that although Trump will try to reach an agreement with Iran “diplomatically,” the US president also has the “right” to use military action.
“You can’t let the craziest and worst regime in the world have nuclear weapons,” Vance said on the “America’s Newsroom” program on Fox News, as reported by news agency AFP, Thursday (February 26, 2026).
“The president has a number of other ways he can use to make sure this doesn’t happen,” Vance said. “He has shown a willingness to use them and I hope Iran takes that seriously in tomorrow’s negotiations because that’s what the president wants,” Vance added.
The US Vice President said that the Trump administration “hopes we can reach a good resolution without military action, but if we have to use military action, the president certainly has that right as well.”
Previously, Trump claimed in his speech that Tehran has “developed missiles that can threaten Europe and our bases abroad, and they are trying to build missiles that will soon reach the United States.”
Iran has denied Trump’s claims and called them “a big lie.” The Iranian government has repeatedly denied that it is seeking to acquire nuclear weapons. Iran insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.
