US Vice President States Conflict with Iran is Not a War

United States Vice President JD Vance is reluctant to categorise the conflict with Iran as a war, even though clashes have continued for six months since the onset of the conflict.

Vance’s statement comes amid increasing signs that US President Donald Trump is seeking to end the conflict with Iran, which has placed a burden on his administration.

“I would not call it a war. At this moment, there is no active shooting,” Vance said during a briefing at the White House when asked whether the conflict would end before the US midterm elections in November, as reported by AFP on Friday (4/9/202<0xA0>26).

“I acknowledge there are places where the situation has heated up,” he added.

However, he stated that large-scale combat operations only lasted for six weeks after the US-Israel war began on 28 February.

“But, when you ask when this will end, your question is the same as asking when Iran will stop shooting at ships? In reality, I do not know the answer. You must ask the Iranian side,” he remarked.

After several weeks of calm, clashes have resurfaced following US strikes on Sunday, exacerbating the deadlock in the six-month conflict, while Iran continues to maintain tight control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Vance emphasised that the US will not reopen talks with Iran until the country ceases its attacks on commercial vessels.

However, with the risk of fuel prices potentially causing Trump-supporting Republicans to lose control of Congress in the upcoming elections, his administration has begun disseminating messages that oil flows through the waterway have now returned to pre-war levels.
