REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WASHINGTON – US Vice President JD Vance is reported to have reprimanded Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over a recent phone call. Vance is said to be annoyed because Netanyahu lied about the ease of overthrowing the Iranian regime.

US media outlet Axios reported on Friday that Vance blamed Netanyahu regarding the likelihood of regime change occurring.

“Before the war, Bibi (Netanyahu) truly considered this easy for the president and promised that regime change was far more likely to happen. The Vice President fully understands the overambitious nature of those statements,” a US official told Axios.

Following those remarks, a US official claimed that Israel attempted to attack Vance, who has taken a leading role in negotiating a ceasefire with the Islamic Republic.

Vance, who has long opposed endless US foreign wars, joined the discussions alongside US negotiator Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

US officials accused Israel of being behind reports that Iran wants to negotiate with Vance, viewing him as more amenable to reaching an agreement to end the war.

“This is an Israeli operation against JD,” the US official told Axios. The media outlet quoted another official who said Vance is likely to reach a deal with Iran.

“If Iran cannot reach a deal with Vance, they will not get a deal. He is the best they can get,” a senior US official told Axios.

A day after the phone conversation between Vance and Netanyahu, an Israeli right-wing news outlet owned by Republican Party donor Miriam Adelson reported that the US Vice President had shouted at Netanyahu over Israeli settlers’ violence against Palestinians in the West Bank.
