US Urges Its Citizens to Leave Iraq Immediately!
The US Embassy in Baghdad has updated its travel warning for Iraq. The Washington Embassy urges US citizens currently in Iraq to leave the country immediately.
“Do not travel to Iraq for any reason. Leave the country immediately if you are there,” states the security alert issued by the US Embassy in Iraq, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Tuesday (21/4/2026).
The US Embassy warns that Iraqi militia groups allied with Iran continue to plan further attacks targeting US citizens and related interests across various regions of Iraq, including the northern areas.
“Some elements related to the Iraqi government continue to actively provide political, financial, and operational protection to these terrorist militias,” the US Embassy warns its citizens in Iraq.
The US Embassy adds that Iraqi airspace has been reopened, with commercial flights now operating on a limited basis.
However, the US Embassy also reminds US citizens considering air travel to remain vigilant against ongoing risks from missiles, drones, and rockets.
“The US mission in Iraq remains open despite being under an ordered departure to assist US citizens in Iraq,” states the US Embassy.
“Do not attempt to come to the Embassy in Baghdad or the Consulate General in Erbil due to significant security risks,” the statement adds.
The US Embassy advises US citizens to contact embassy or consulate officials via electronic means.
This US travel warning emerges amid regional conflict following joint US and Israeli strikes against Iran on 28 February. Tehran responded with waves of missile and drone attacks on targets in Israel and Middle Eastern countries hosting US military assets.
A two-week ceasefire, mediated by Pakistan, has been in effect since 8 April.
