US Urges Its Citizens to Avoid Crowds During Demonstrations in Milan
Washington (ANTARA) – The US Consulate in Milan has urged all its citizens to avoid large gatherings and crowded locations ahead of demonstrations expected to take place in the northern Italian city.
“The possibility of demonstrations and protests in Milan, as well as in other major cities across Italy, remains high over the weekend of 24 October 2026, particularly on Saturday,” the US Consulate in Milan said in its advisory on Friday (23 October).
Italian authorities have urged the public to avoid the Piazza Duomo area and the main commercial streets throughout the weekend.
Local authorities will also close some roads, impose traffic restrictions and increase law-enforcement presence in areas expected to host demonstrations, the consulate said.
Protests had previously taken place in several Italian cities on 17–18 October.
The most serious unrest, involving looting and vandalism, occurred in Milan. More than 300 people were detained in the city, and nearly 50 were arrested.
At least 110 law-enforcement officers required medical treatment after clashes in the city centre, while nearly 200 other officers were injured across the country.
RIA Novosti also reported, citing a document it had reviewed, that the “Italy 17 October Movement” had called for protests to continue following the unrest in Milan and other Italian cities. It was preparing new tactical guidance for demonstrators scheduled to take to the streets in major cities across Italy on Saturday.
