Washington (ANTARA) - US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessetter stated that European nations should emulate US efforts to address the ongoing global diesel shortage.

Previously, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer indicated that the US would urge European Union nations to release the economic bloc’s reserves. Greer is expected to convey this message to officials shortly.

“Under the leadership of President Donald Trump, the US is fulfilling its commitment to help stabilise the global energy market. Our partners in Europe must accelerate the implementation of existing commitments and immediately provide additional supplies to address ongoing disruptions,” said Bessent.

“America has done its part. We expect our allies to realise their commitments through concrete action,” Bessent added.

Last month, US President Donald Trump called for a ban on diesel exports amidst rising domestic fuel prices.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that executives from major companies, such as Chevron and ExxonMobil, have begun contacting US government officials to prevent such a measure from being implemented.
