The regime (Iran) currently will never have nuclear weapons; and to achieve that, we must address the issue of uranium enrichment. We must also address the issue of highly enriched uranium,’ Rubio said at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Sweden, Switzerland, on Friday. Rubio added that the US is waiting for latest developments from the negotiations ongoing between the United States and Iran, but he emphasised that the basic principle remains, namely Iran must not possess a nuclear weapon. In response, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said it does not intend to relinquish rights guaranteed under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The United States seeks to limit Iran’s nuclear ambitions, while Tehran insists that it wants security assurances before willing to discuss the nuclear program.
