US Unfazed by Netanyahu's Rejection of Gaza Peace Plan
The United States government under President Donald Trump has said it is not concerned by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s rejection of the Gaza peace plan. The White House views the rejection rhetoric as merely part of Israel’s domestic political campaign.
News site Axios reported on Monday (10/8), citing a senior White House official who declined to be named.
“We understand Bibi’s (Netanyahu’s) political needs. We have no problem with it as long as he continues to do what we ask, especially regarding restrictions on attacks in Gaza,” the White House official said.
Previously on Sunday (9/8), Netanyahu publicly announced that Israel rejects the 15-point plan drawn up by the Peace Council for the Gaza Strip. Netanyahu stressed that the Israeli military (IDF) will not withdraw from the territory before Hamas is completely disarmed.
Despite the public rejection, a report by The New York Times revealed that Hamas officials believe Israel is in fact still coordinating with the Peace Council.
According to the official source, Netanyahu held a telephone conversation with US Presidential Special Envoy Jared Kushner last week. During the conversation, Netanyahu promised to give the 15-point plan a chance to be implemented, regardless of his own scepticism.
Netanyahu also committed to limiting the intensity of military attacks on Gaza so that the demilitarisation process in the area can begin immediately.
Since 9 October 2025, Israel and Hamas, through international mediation involving Egypt, Qatar, the United States and Turkiye, have agreed to implement the first phase of the peace plan initiated by President Donald Trump.
An official ceasefire came into effect a day after the agreement was reached. Under the agreement, Israeli military forces were instructed to withdraw to an area agreed upon as the “yellow line”.
Despite carrying out a gradual withdrawal following the agreement, Israel to date is still recorded as maintaining military control over more than 50 percent of the total area of the Gaza Strip.
