Soldiers from the United States Army and the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) have officially completed the Ksatria Warrior 2026 exercise. Held from 15 to 28 August in Baturaja, South Sumatra, the exercise marks a new milestone in the long-standing defence partnership between the two countries.

According to an official statement from the US Embassy on Saturday (29/08/2026), the strategic agenda combined humanitarian assistance, civic construction, and field military manoeuvres. The entire series was specifically designed to strengthen interoperability and operational readiness of the two militaries.

The closing ceremony brought together training participants, Indonesian government officials, and other invited guests to witness the success of the joint exercise. The activity highlighted the strong shared commitment between the US and Indonesia to strengthening defence cooperation while maintaining regional security.

Before the main exercise began, soldiers from the US 215th Vertical Construction Engineer Company launched an Engineer Civic Action Project (ENCAP) to build close ties with the local community. From 11 to 19 August, US soldiers worked with TNI AD military personnel to improve local school facilities, in line with the Pacific Army training programme and humanitarian assistance.

Captain David Carrion of the US Army National Guard, assigned to the 215th Vertical Construction Engineer Company, explained the importance of the collaborative mission. “This is not just an ordinary military exercise. We actually see the results directly, how the school was successfully built thanks to our hard work and partnership with the TNI,” he said.

Meanwhile, Major Luis Sanchez of the US Army Reserve affirmed that the Ksatria Warrior 2026 exercise was a golden opportunity. Luis assessed that this strategic partnership is crucial in strengthening the ranks to face the dynamics of military operations in the Indo-Pacific region in the future.

“When we think about the threats we will face in the Pacific, it is very important that we can work together with our partner forces, who are able to combine strength, so that we can continue to deter our greatest threats in the Pacific,” he said.

“Continuing our partnership with the TNI AD and the Indonesian army, as well as with all our partners here, will support the direction of development, growth and interoperability that we want to achieve together through this exercise,” he added.

Furthermore, the interoperability of the two land forces continues to develop rapidly from the relationship-building stage to operational planning through the Staff Exercise (STAFFEX). Battalion staff have successfully completed the Military Decision Making Process (MDMP), developed mature operational plans, and issued direct instructions to subordinate companies in preparation for the company-level field training phase.

“Overall, the Ksatria Warrior 2026 exercise is a form of defence cooperation between Washington and Jakarta. The increasingly close relationship during this exercise is believed to contribute greatly to the continuation of military cooperation, building trust, and maintaining operational readiness to deter threats in the Indo-Pacific region,” the US Embassy added.
