SINGAPORE (AFP): Top U.S. military officials have been
visiting Southeast Asia to discuss the security situation which
has caused nervousness among American businessmen, officials said
here on Friday.
"The issue of security is on everyone's mind. The U.S. has a
presence in this region, we have a commitment to this region,"
U.S. Ambassador to Singapore Steven Green told reporters after
talks with American business leaders in Asia.
"We have been here over the last couple of weeks with all our
senior military people responsible for the Pacific area as well
as the chief of navy and other members of our government who are
particularly concerned about security issues," he said.
The U.S. chief of naval operations Admiral Jay Johnson called
on Singapore officials early this week while commander in chief
of the U.S. Pacific Command Admiral Dennis Blair arrived here on
Thursday.
