U.S. to send business mission to SE Asia
SINGAPORE (AFP): The United States is to send a top-level business delegation to Southeast Asia in March to explore trade and investment opportunities, it was announced here yesterday.
The delegation of 100 executives, the largest US business mission yet to visit the region, is to be accompanied by figures including former Secretary of State Alexander Haig and former Secretary of the Treasury Lloyd Bentsen.
The US delegation is to visit Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia from March 8 to 14.
ASEAN is the third largest overseas export market for the United States and its fastest growing trading partner. US exports to ASEAN reached more than US$32 billion in the first nine months of 1996, a 13-percent rise over the same period of 1995.
