US to Implement Economic D-Day Operation, Trump Boasts Iran Will Collapse

The United States government is about to implement its latest economic operation against Iran. US President Donald Trump has boasted that Iran will collapse.

‘Iran is totally collapsing,’ Trump said, as reported by The Independent on Monday (24/8/2026).

Trump’s statement was made today, just hours before the US imposes economic sanctions on Iran. The sanctions announcement will be delivered at 14.00 Eastern Time (ET), or Tuesday (25/8) at 01.00 WIB.

Trump had previously threatened to impose an ‘extraordinarily large’ package of economic punishment, which Tehran has described as ‘economic terrorism’.

In an article for the Financial Times on Sunday (23/8), US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said, ‘Dawn will mark the beginning of economic D-Day - the largest financial assault ever deployed against an enemy.’

He had previously warned that the sanctions package would be ‘the toughest sanctions in history’.

Iran’s security chief Mohsen Rezaei threatened to retaliate in kind if the US proceeds with its plan. He also warned Iran’s neighbouring countries in the Gulf region not to participate in the implementation of the sanctions.

‘If Trump takes action, our confrontation will strike back like an earthquake,’ Rezaei said.

‘If the countries around Iran join America in their economic war, not a single drop of oil will leave the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. We will also target other oil export routes from the Persian Gulf,’ he threatened.
