US Threatens to Attack Iran's Main Oil Facilities on Kharg Island
The United States has launched military strikes against facilities at Iran’s primary oil export hub on Kharg Island, Saturday, 14 March 2026. The conflict has entered its third week, with tensions in the Middle Eastern region escalating significantly.
According to CNN, President Donald Trump stated that US military forces had bombed “every military target” on the island. However, US officials and Iranian state media reported that no oil infrastructure sustained damage from the strikes.
Kharg Island is a strategically vital location handling approximately 90 per cent of Iran’s crude oil exports and represents one of the most critical points in Iran’s energy industry.
Trump threatened to attack oil infrastructure if Tehran continues to obstruct vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian government warned it would launch retaliatory strikes against energy infrastructure in the region if Iranian energy facilities become targets of attack.
A senior Iranian official stated that Tehran was considering permitting a limited number of oil tanker vessels to transit the Strait of Hormuz, conditional upon oil transactions being conducted using Chinese yuan.
