US Third Aircraft Carrier Sails Towards Middle East
The third United States aircraft carrier is currently sailing towards the Middle East, as Washington maintains an increased military presence in the region. According to sources familiar with the matter, as reported by Al Arabiya media on Wednesday (1/4/2026), the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush is expected to replace one of the two aircraft carriers that have already been deployed, which have played a central role in US-Israel military strikes against Iran. The other two US aircraft carriers, USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Gerald R. Ford, have been operating in Middle Eastern waters for months, supported by their carrier strike groups. The US military has also deployed thousands of additional Marines and sailors to the region in recent days. The recent additional deployment of US military forces includes amphibious assault ships and additional fighter jets, which underscores the scale of the military build-up. US President Donald Trump has warned that Washington could escalate attacks against Iran if Tehran does not agree to a deal addressing nuclear enrichment, the missile programme, and support for its regional proxies.
