US Targets Iran's Oil; American Senator: We Will Make Substantial Profits if Tehran Regime Falls

A senior Republican senator from the United States has suggested that military action against Iran is motivated by access to oil resources, rather than solely by nuclear weapons concerns. According to Senator Lindsey Graham, the United States would control nearly one-third of global oil supplies and achieve record profits if it successfully overthrows the Iranian government.

Graham made these comments on Sunday, 8 March 2026, to Fox News when global oil prices surged past $100 per barrel. US President Donald Trump has characterised the current oil price rise as modest relative to the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran, which was launched on 28 February.

Graham described the costs of the military offensive as “the best money ever spent,” justifying it as necessary to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons—a claim that Iran has repeatedly denied. He elaborated on the strategic and economic advantages of regime change in Tehran.

“When this regime falls, we will have a new Middle East, and we will generate substantial profits. No one will threaten the Strait of Hormuz any longer,” Graham stated, adding that the United States would establish a “friendly” government in Tehran.

He further argued that Venezuela and Iran together hold 31 per cent of the world’s proven oil reserves. “We will establish partnerships with those 31 per cent of known reserves. This is a nightmare for China. This is a good investment,” Graham concluded.
