The United States Supreme Court has rejected President Donald Trump’s request to overturn lower court orders that block his effort to restrict postal voting. The ruling was issued ahead of the mid-term elections due in November.

In its decision on Monday (14/9), a majority of the justices rejected Trump’s request. Only two of the nine justices expressed dissenting opinions.

The US Supreme Court is currently dominated by conservative justices. One of the conservative judges, Brett Kavanaugh, declared his support for the majority’s decision.

He considered that Trump’s plan to restrict postal voting could still be deemed legally valid in the long term. According to Kavanaugh, the problem lay in the timing of the rule’s implementation.

“State and local election officials do not have enough time to implement the rule fairly before the election takes place,” Kavanaugh said in his opinion, as quoted by AFP on Tuesday (15/9/2026).

The Supreme Court’s ruling means Trump’s effort to impose restrictions on postal voting ahead of the November mid-term elections has once again been thwarted.
