US strikes Southern Iran, targeting missile launch sites and mine laying vessels

United States (US) forces have reportedly carried out a military strike in southern Iran onMonday (26 May). US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated the action was taken as a ‘defensive measure’ to protect personnel from direct threats posed by Iranian forces.CENTCOM spokesperson Captain Tim Hawkins confirmed the operation targeted strategic military infrastructure deemed a threat to regional security. The primary focus was missile launch sites and a fleet of vessels suspected of preparing to lay sea mines. ‘US forces conducted a defensive strike in southern Iran today to protect our personnel from Iranian threats,’ Hawkins stated in remarks to Fox News. He added that despite the strikes,CENTCOM remains restrained amid ongoing ceasefire negotiations. Although the US did not specify exact locations, Iranian local media reported a series of loud explosions at strategic points along the southern coast. Port city Bandar Abbas, as well as areas Sirik and Jask facing the Persian Gulf, were where the blasts were heard.
