US Strikes Iran Again After Two Soldiers Killed by Missile
The United States has launched new air strikes against Iran, claiming the action is retaliation after two US soldiers were killed by Iranian ballistic missiles and drones in Jordan. The US military stated it had commenced fresh air strikes against Iran to ‘swiftly punish’ the country for killing American military personnel.
‘These strikes are designed to further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and to swiftly punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces that launched attacks against American service members in Jordan last night,’ US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a post on X.
CENTCOM previously announced that two US service members were killed and one is missing in action, marking the first American military fatalities from Iranian fire since March. ‘Two US service members were killed as US and allied forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and unmanned aerial vehicle attacks,’ the CENTCOM statement read. Four other personnel were evacuated to a hospital in Jordan for medical treatment. No further details have been released regarding the identities of the fallen soldiers or the search operation for the missing personnel.
Earlier, Iran threatened to proceed with ‘full-scale offensive operations’ if the US continues its waves of strikes against the country. The threat was issued by a senior official of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Major General Mohsen Rezaei, who also serves as a senior military adviser to Iran’s supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei. ‘If the US attacks continue for another two or three days, we will enter the phase of full-scale offensive operations,’ Rezaei stressed in an interview cited by state broadcaster IRIB. ‘Iran will no longer limit itself to retaliatory actions, a proportionate response… No political boundary will be safe from Iran’s offensive power,’ he said. Rezaei added that the US should pay financial compensation for what Iranian officials describe as attacks on civilian infrastructure. Washington has denied deliberately targeting civilian facilities in Tehran.
