US Strikes Iran Again, 14 Killed and Dozens Injured
United States air strikes struck Iran again on Wednesday evening local time, marking the second day of renewed hostilities between the two nations. At least 14 people were killed and dozens more injured in the latest wave of attacks.
Iran’s Ministry of Health, as reported by AFP on Thursday, stated that 14 people had died and 78 others were wounded as a result of the US strikes. “Of the total number of injured, 47 people are still being treated in hospital and the rest have been allowed to go home after receiving medical care,” said ministry spokesperson Hossein Kermanpour in a statement on social media platform X. The health ministry did not clarify whether the latest death toll comprised civilians or military personnel.
Earlier, the Iranian military announced via state television that “eight brave members of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Air Force and Navy in Bandar Abbas and Bushehr were martyred.” Tehran described Washington’s attacks as “criminal aggression.”
The health ministry’s statement was released after US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that its forces had struck approximately 90 Iranian military targets on Wednesday evening. “To further degrade Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping and innocent civilian mariners in the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM said in its latest statement. “US forces struck approximately 90 Iranian military targets, including air defence systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone storage sites, naval capabilities, and military logistics infrastructure along the Iranian coastline.”
Iranian state media reported a series of explosions at several locations along the country’s southern coast following CENTCOM’s announcement of the latest wave of attacks. According to the IRNA news agency, the sound of fighter jets was heard over Kish Island and explosions rocked the port cities of Bandar Abbas, Konarak, and Chabahar, some of which experienced power outages. IRNA also reported attacks on a military base in the Bushehr coastal area, which is home to Iran’s only civilian nuclear power plant. In north-eastern Iran, several official media outlets reported that a railway bridge was damaged after being hit by a US air strike.
