US Strikes 90 Targets in Iran, Trump Claims 'Denuclearisation'
The United States military launched a second consecutive wave of air strikes on Iranian territory. US Central Command (Centcom) confirmed that around 90 targets were struck in its latest military operation.
Through a compilation video of the strikes posted on social media platform X, Centcom stated the operation aimed to weaken Iran’s military power along the strategic maritime route.
“The purpose was to further degrade Iran’s ability to attack commercial vessels and innocent civilian mariners in the Strait of Hormuz,” Centcom said in an official statement.
The strikes targeted military infrastructure along Iran’s coastline, including air defence systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone storage facilities, naval capabilities, and military logistics infrastructure. Centcom added that the operation was a continuation of the successful offensive strikes carried out the previous night.
The impact of the strikes has begun to spread to surrounding areas. Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior reported that danger sirens had been activated in the country. Bahraini authorities urged citizens and residents to remain calm and immediately head to the nearest safe location.
For the first time since the conflict broke out, the south-eastern Iranian port city of Chabahar was also targeted. Based on BBC verification of photos and videos, a maritime traffic control tower in the city appeared to have suffered severe damage.
Iran’s semi-official news agency, Tasnim, reported around ten explosions were heard in the Chabahar and Konarak areas. As a result of the strikes, electricity supplies in parts of Chabahar were reportedly cut off. Tasnim also stated that US fighter jets bombed the Imam Ali naval base belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Chabahar.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump told journalists aboard Air Force One that the current conflict is not a large-scale war.
“It’s really not a war. It’s a de-nuclearisation of Iran. Denuclearisation of Iran,” Trump said. “So, it’s all about taking the nuclear weapons, not allowing Iran to have nuclear weapons. And everybody should like that.”
Trump also repeated his claim that he had ended eight wars during his time as president. When asked whether the US would return to full-scale military conflict, Trump replied: “I don’t know, but we’d win it very quickly.”
Furthermore, Trump claimed the US had “won militarily” and said Iran is now in a weak position and very eager to reach a political deal.
“They called a little while ago, they’re very anxious to make a deal, I just don’t know if they’re worthy of making a deal,” Trump said. “I don’t know whether they’re going to honour the deal, that’s the problem.”
