US strikes 90+ military targets on Kharg Island in Iran
Washington — The United States Armed Forces “conducted large-scale precision strikes” against Kharg Island, Iran’s primary oil export hub, on Friday night (13 March) local time, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Saturday (14 March).
“US forces successfully struck more than 90 Iranian military targets on Kharg Island whilst preserving oil infrastructure,” CENTCOM stated in a post on social media platform X.
According to the statement, the strikes destroyed sea mine storage facilities, missile storage bunkers, and several other military locations.
Kharg Island is located in the Persian Gulf, approximately 25 kilometres from the Iranian coast. The island accounts for roughly 90 per cent of Iran’s crude oil exports.
US President Donald Trump wrote on social media Friday night that the bombing “completely destroyed” military targets on Kharg Island.
He also threatened to target the island’s oil infrastructure if shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is disrupted.
In response to Trump’s statement, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi warned on Saturday that any strikes against Iranian oil and energy infrastructure would trigger retaliation against regional facilities belonging to US companies.
