US Strikes 90 Iranian Military Targets in Latest Attack

The United States (US) announced that its forces struck at least 90 Iranian military targets on Wednesday evening local time, marking the second day of renewed fighting between the two nations. The US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees American military operations in the Middle East, stated that the latest strikes were intended to further diminish Iran’s capacity to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. “US forces struck approximately 90 Iranian military targets, including air defence systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone storage locations, naval capabilities, and military logistics infrastructure along the Iranian coastline,” CENTCOM said in a statement. This operation followed a previous wave of attacks on 7 July, where US forces bombarded around 80 military targets, including 60 small boats belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). CENTCOM stated that the initial strikes were a response to Iran violating a ceasefire by attacking three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. “US forces remain vigilant, lethal, and ready to execute operations as directed by the Commander-in-Chief,” the statement added, referring to President Donald Trump. In retaliation, Iran targeted US military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait on Wednesday. Amid the escalating tit-for-tat attacks, President Trump declared the ceasefire agreement between the two countries over and launched a verbal tirade against the Iranian leadership, calling them “garbage” and “deranged.” Speaking on the sidelines of a NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, Trump warned of “far worse” attacks if Tehran continued to target shipping in the vital energy corridor.
