US Stock Investors on Pluang Soar, Beginner Investors Grow 63-Fold
Indonesian investor interest in United States (US) stocks and exchange traded funds (ETFs) continues to grow. Internal data from Pluang shows the number of US stock investors actively transacting each month has increased six-fold over the past three years.
Growth has been even higher among beginner investors. The number of new investors in the US stock asset class has surged 63-fold over the same period.
Director of Marketing & Commercial at Pluang, Andreas Agung Hendrawan, said the increase reflects a shift in Indonesian investor behaviour towards diversifying portfolios into global assets.
“Indonesian investors are now far more adept at finding new growth opportunities. With a more global mindset, they are pursuing world-class opportunities to complement, not replace, their local portfolios,” Andreas said in a written statement quoted on Tuesday (11/8/2026).
According to him, US stock investment is no longer concentrated among investors who have studied abroad or who live in metropolitan cities.
Some 38% of US stock investors on Pluang currently come from secondary and tertiary cities. Pluang also notes that it serves investors spread across more than 300 cities and regencies in Indonesia.
In terms of funds under management, total assets under management (AUM) for US stocks and ETFs on Pluang has increased 19-fold over the past three years.
In the first quarter of 2026, around one in five new Pluang investors began their investment journey through the US stock and ETF asset class.
Investor commitment to these assets is also relatively strong. More than 70% of investors who first bought global stocks a year ago still retain their holdings today.
Andreas believes this indicates that global stock investment is beginning to be used as part of a long-term diversification strategy, rather than purely for short-term speculation.
“For example, companies related to artificial intelligence (AI) now account for around 45% of the S&P 500 market capitalisation according to Goldman Sachs 2026 data. This underscores why regulated access to these companies is important for Indonesian investors seeking to diversify globally,” he said.
Pluang currently provides access to more than 650 US stocks and ETFs, including through fractional ownership schemes. The platform also offers investment products such as options and leverage for experienced investors.
Pluang has stated that it transitioned all US stock and ETF products to the Penyaluran Amanat Nasabah ke Bursa Luar Negeri (PALN) scheme in 2025.
The PALN scheme is a mechanism used to facilitate foreign stock investment by domestic retail investors with ownership of the underlying shares.
In its implementation, Pluang partners with PT PG Berjangka. Transactions are recorded on the Jakarta Futures Exchange (JFX) and guaranteed by Kliring Berjangka Indonesia (KBI), while execution of transactions on US exchanges is carried out through Alpaca Securities LLC.
Through this scheme, investors can hold fractional ownership of the underlying shares and receive dividend rights proportionally.
Pluang notes that investors using global stock products have received dividend payments totalling tens of billions of rupiah since the product was launched.
“As the outlook of Indonesian society becomes increasingly global, our task is not merely to provide access, but also to continuously improve the standards of quality, transparency, and investor protection behind it,” Andreas said.
According to him, the decision to fully transition to the PALN scheme is part of the company’s efforts to raise service standards and investor protection in global stock investment.
