US Shoots Down Two Iranian Drones in Strait of Hormuz
The United States has announced that its forces shot down two Iranian drones over the waters of the Strait of Hormuz. Washington said the Tehran-operated drones were attempting to attack commercial ships transiting the strategic waterway.
The downing of the Iranian drones, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Friday (12/6/2026), represents the latest escalation in a conflict that has raged for several months and threatens the fragile ceasefire imposed since April.
“It appears Iran attempted to attack commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz tonight,” an unnamed US official said, as quoted by NBC News on Thursday (11/6).
“US forces shot down two Iranian one-way attack drones. Traffic flow through the Strait continues,” the US official stated.
The US official provided no further details regarding which ship was targeted by the Iranian drone attack or any damage caused by the incident.
There has been no immediate response from Iranian authorities or the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps regarding the report.
News of the downed Iranian drones emerged hours after US President Donald Trump, for the umpteenth time, said that Washington was close to reaching a deal with Tehran to end the war.
In his latest statement, Trump said the deal could be signed “soon, possibly over the weekend”.
The US President added that Vice President JD Vance, US special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, and Trump’s adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner would represent the US at a possible signing ceremony in Europe.
