US Senator Threatens Saudi Arabia Over Israel Recognition
US Senator Lindsey Graham threatened Saudi Arabia and other nations that they would face severe consequences if they refuse to join the Abraham Accords as part of a deal to end the Iran conflict.
“If, as a result of negotiations to end this Iran conflict, our Arab and Muslim allies in the region agree to join the Abraham Accords, then this deal would be one of the most important in Middle Eastern history,” he said.
The Abraham Accords are a series of agreements brokered under the Trump administration in 2020, normalising diplomatic relations between Israel and historically hostile nations. Recognising the Abraham Accords would mean Saudi Arabia normalising ties with Israel, which Riyadh has long rejected.
The Republican senator said Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Pakistan joining the accords would be transformative for the region and the world. He described the proposal as a brilliant move by former US President Donald Trump.
“It is time to be brave for a new Middle East future,” he added.
“I hope, as President Trump has suggested, you will genuinely join the Abraham Accords, which would effectively end the Arab-Israeli conflict.”
He warned US regional allies that refusing to follow Trump’s proposed path would harm future relations.
“This makes the peace proposal unacceptable. Moreover, history will view it as a major miscalculation.”
He concluded by urging President Trump to remain committed to achieving what he described as a good deal with Iran, insisting Saudi Arabia and other nations join the Abraham Accords as part of the negotiations.
