REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WASHINGTON – US Senator Bernie Sanders has expressed his rejection of the proposed request for funding amounting to $200 billion (approximately Rp 3,100 trillion) for the war against Iran. In his statement on Tuesday (24/3/2026), Sanders also pledged to take steps to block arms transfers to Israel. “Absolutely not. We will introduce a joint resolution in the coming weeks to stop the delivery of 20,000 bombs to Israel, including bulldozers,” Sanders said, quoted from Anadolu Agency on Wednesday (25/3/2026). He assessed that the United States, along with Israel, has initiated the conflict with Iran. Sanders also criticised the administration of President Donald Trump regarding the rise in fuel prices and increasing economic pressure on citizens. “Petrol prices are rising and the public is very worried,” he said in an interview with CNN. Sanders accused the Trump administration of failing to prioritise affordability for the public. “The United States started this war. The unilateral attacks alongside Israel have caused great suffering in the Middle East,” he stated.
