US seeks breakthrough in Ukraine war negotiations before winter

Moscow (ANTARA) - US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner told Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv that Washington wants a breakthrough in negotiations to settle the war in Ukraine before winter sets in.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, Axios reported on Sunday that the two envoys held two meetings in Kyiv with Zelenskyy and his advisers to discuss an updated Ukraine peace proposal.

The Ukrainian broadcaster TSN recently reported that the official part of the negotiations, which took place in several stages, has been completed. Senior officials from the United Kingdom, France and Germany were also reportedly joining via video link.

Earlier on Saturday, Witkoff and Kushner met Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin in talks lasting around three hours.

In addition to Putin, the meeting was attended by Kremlin adviser Yury Ushakov and the CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Kirill Dmitriev, who is also the president’s special representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries.
