US Secretary of State Will Not Allow Iran's Control of the Strait of Hormuz to Be "Normalised"

Washington (ANTARA) - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday (5/5) that the US will not allow Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz to be “normalised” after both sides exchanged fire in this crucial global energy route.

“They are trying to make this the new normal,” Rubio said during a press conference at the White House.

“Under no circumstances should we allow them to normalise the fact that they can blow up commercial ships and lay mines in the waters,” he continued.

“Our preference is for this strait to be opened as it should be, returned to how it was,” he added, while stressing that Iran “must not be allowed to determine who uses this vital waterway.”

Previously, on 28 February, the US and Israel launched a joint attack against Tehran and other cities in Iran, which killed Iran’s then-supreme leader Ali Khamenei, senior commanders, and civilians.

Iran then responded with waves of missile and drone attacks against US and Israeli assets in the Middle East, and tightened control over the Strait of Hormuz.
