US Revokes Brazilian Ambassador's Visa Amid Diplomatic Dispute

The United States government has revoked the visa of Brazil’s Ambassador Mario Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, prolonging a diplomatic dispute between the two nations. A senior US State Department official stated that the visa revocation was a response to Brazil’s decision last month to deny visas to two American diplomats, as well as its failure to approve the candidate for US ambassador to Brazil put forward by President Donald Trump’s administration. In early June, Trump nominated Daniel Perez as the next US ambassador to Brazil. The US Senate has yet to confirm his nomination, and he will not assume the post until receiving approval from Brazil. The State Department official added that the Brazilian ambassador’s visa would be reinstated once the situation is resolved.
