The Trump administration has reportedly submitted to Iran a proposal containing 15 conditions to end the war in the Middle East. According to a report by Israel’s Channel 12, the proposal emerged on Tuesday evening (24/03) and is sourced from three insiders.

The New York Times also reported that the proposal was sent to Iran through Pakistan, citing two officials familiar with the process.

In the proposal, US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner suggested a one-month ceasefire. During that period, both parties would negotiate the agreement containing those 15 points.

Channel 12 reported several key points from the plan, including: the dismantling of Iran’s nuclear programme, the cessation of support for proxy groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

However, according to The New York Times report, it is unclear whether Israel supports the proposal.

Earlier on Tuesday (24/03), Pakistan offered to host negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

Trump claims Iran gives ‘big gift’ amid negotiations

United States President Donald Trump stated that talks with Iran to end the war are currently underway, and he claimed that Tehran has given him a gift related to the energy sector.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said that Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law Jared Kushner are directly involved in the negotiation process.

Trump emphasised that Washington is speaking with the ‘right people’ in Iran to reach an agreement, while claiming that Tehran wants to reach a ‘deal as soon as possible.’

According to Trump, Iran has ‘agreed that they will never have nuclear weapons’ and even stated that the US has ‘won’ the war. Additionally, Trump revealed that Iran has given him a ‘very big gift, of tremendous value.’

‘That gift is not related to nuclear issues, but to oil and gas, and it’s a very good action from them,’ said Trump. ‘To me, that means one thing, we’re dealing with the right party.’

Previously, Trump had delayed the deadline he set for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz following what he called ‘productive talks’ with the Iranian side. However, Tehran denied any negotiations and accused Trump of trying to manipulate financial and oil markets.

Macron asks Iran to negotiate in good faith to ease tensions

French President Emmanuel Macron asked Iran to negotiate in ‘good faith’ in an effort to end the ongoing war, via a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

In his statement on platform X on Tuesday (24/03), Macron said that he asked Iran to engage constructively in the negotiation process to pave the way for de-escalation, while creating a framework that can meet the international community’s expectations regarding Iran’s nuclear and ballistic programme as well as its activities deemed to trigger regional instability.

Macron also stressed the importance of stopping Iranian attacks that he deemed ‘unacceptable’ against several countries in the region. In addition, Macron asked Iran to maintain the continuity of energy and civilian infrastructure, and to ensure the security of shipping routes in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

Media reports say US plans to deploy thousands more troops

The Pentagon is reportedly set to order the deployment of thousands more troops to the Middle East. According to two officials cited by The Wall Street Journal, the US Department of Defense plans to send around 3,000 personnel to bolster operations related to Iran.

Reuters news agency also reported similarly, stating that thousands more troops are being prepared for deployment by the US military. The troops come from the 82nd Airborne Division, an elite US Army unit known for its rapid mobility to any region in the world. Officials have not detailed the destination location or departure time for the troops.

This division is based in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and has expertise in parachute operations into hostile territories to secure strategic positions. Nevertheless, officials emphasised that there has been no decision to place US troops directly in Iranian territory.

However, this buildup is said to give President Donald Trump various operational options, such as reopening the Strait of Hormuz by military force or seizing Iranian strategic islands, according to The Wall Street Journal report.

Last week, the US also sent 2,500 Marines and sailors with the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer to the area. Previously, The New York Times reported that the Trump administration is considering deploying the 82nd Airborne Division as part of evolving military options.

Iran: besides enemy ships, passage allowed in Strait of Hormuz

Iran stated that ‘non-hostile’ ships will be allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz as long as they coordinate with Iranian authorities, according to a letter cited by several media outlets on Tuesday (24/03).

The Financial Times reported that the letter was sent by Tehran to member states of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Reuters and AFP later also confirmed the contents of the same letter.

In the letter, Iran affirmed that ships associated with the United States, Israel, and ‘other participants in aggression’ do not qualify for peaceful or non-hostile navigation.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital route that has long been a point of flow for about one-fifth of the world’s oil, which has been closed to international shipping since the Israel-US war with Iran erupted at the end of February. Hundreds of container ships, tankers, and cargo ships are now forced to
