US reportedly expands intelligence presence in Cuba

The United States has deployed additional intelligence personnel to Cuba and increased its intelligence activities in the Caribbean nation in recent months, Politico reported on Tuesday. Citing several sources, the report revealed that the US recently sent intelligence personnel and resources to Cuba, describing the increased intelligence presence as a key tactical step that could pave the way for a possible US military intervention. The report added that US military operations are often preceded by a surge in intelligence activity. Another source said the move reflects a recent increase in the Central Intelligence Agency’s presence in Cuba, according to the report. The report also noted that the US has conducted various intelligence activities in Cuba for decades, as it does in many other parts of the world. In late March, US President Donald Trump threatened that ‘Cuba is next’ following US strikes on Venezuela and Iran.
