The United States (US) AN/TPY-2 radar, considered a vital component of the THAAD missile defence system, has been damaged due to Iran’s attack on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, according to a report from CNN television station citing satellite imagery.

The radar, divided among several mobile trailers at Prince Sultan Base, is currently located in an open area. Its antenna appears charred and burnt, while most of its parts are missing.

According to the US Missile Defense Agency’s 2025 budget, the AN/TPY-2 radar is priced at 136 million US dollars (approximately Rp2.31 trillion).

On 28 February, the US and Israel launched attacks on several targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties.

Iran retaliated by striking Israeli territory and several US military facilities in the Middle East, including in Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.
