US pledges $15.5 million in emergency aid for Colombia

The US Department of State announced a commitment of $15.5 million in emergency aid for Colombia following a powerful earthquake. The 7.4 magnitude tremor struck near San Jose del Palmar in the Choco region, approximately 400 kilometres west of the capital, Bogota, at a depth of about 107 kilometres. The US government stated the funds are intended for emergency shelter, food, and damage assessments. Colombian authorities reported that at least 111 people were killed and 87 others were injured. Approximately 1,600 buildings sustained damage, including at least 61 that collapsed.
