US Petrol Prices Surpass US$4 per Gallon Amid Iran Conflict

The average price of petrol in the United States officially surpassed the US$4 threshold, or approximately Rp71,908 per gallon, on Monday (20/7/2026). According to local fuel statistics cited by RIA Novosti, the price of Regular petrol touched US$4.003 per gallon, reversing a decline to US$3.9 per gallon in mid-June shortly after the two nations signed a memorandum of understanding. The increase is significant in several regions. In California, petrol is now priced at US$5.4 per gallon, with similar conditions observed in Washington and Hawaii, where the price per gallon has exceeded US$5. However, prices in several states such as Florida, Colorado, Virginia, Delaware, and New Mexico remain below the US$4 mark. Ohio currently records the lowest petrol price in the United States at US$3.8 per gallon. This upward trend correlates with the surge in global oil prices due to geopolitical uncertainty. Relations between the US and Iran deteriorated again after the US military launched a series of attacks starting 8 July, which were retaliated by Iran targeting several US military bases in the Middle East. Tensions peaked when US President Donald Trump stated on 9 July that the ceasefire agreement signed on 18 June was no longer valid. Iran has accused Washington of violating the agreement, which was originally intended to end the conflict that has been ongoing since February 2026.
