US Parliament Majority Declares Iran War a Total Failure
The war between the United States and Iran has been ongoing for seven months. The US Parliament is now describing the Trump administration’s efforts in this conflict as a total failure.
The war involving the US and Israel against Iran broke out on 28 February. Both nations launched joint attacks on Iranian territory. While these strikes resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, the US and Israeli plans to force Iran into submission have yet to succeed.
The conflict involving the three nations expanded after Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz. The closure of this vital global trade route has destabilised the world’s oil supply. Despite a series of attempted negotiations, no agreement has been reached.
US Parliament Declares Military Operations in Iran a Failure
Many members of the US Parliament have described the military operations ignited by President Donald Trump against Iran over the last six months as a “total failure.” There is a widespread call for Washington’s war against Tehran to end immediately.
This outcry follows recent US attacks on Iran, with Washington’s political circles acknowledging that the war has failed to achieve any of its set objectives.
Democratic Senator from Virginia, Mark Warner, as reported by Press TV on Tuesday (1/9/2026), stated that the war launched by the White House in late February has actually made the US weaker rather than stronger.
“Six months have passed since the start of Trump’s chosen war. What are the results?” asked Warner, who also serves as the Vice Chairman of the US Senate Intelligence Committee, in a statement via the social media platform X.
He detailed the impacts of the war, including escalating retaliatory strikes between the US and Iran, surging oil prices, the overstretching of American troops and ammunition, the increasing extremism of the Tehran government, and Iran’s continued possession of enriched uranium, missiles, and drones.
“The war ignited by the president has become a total failure, yet there are no signs of it ending,” Warner asserted in his criticism of Trump.
Citing the Death of US Soldiers
Similar criticism was voiced by Senator from Maryland, Chris Van Hollen, also from the Democratic Party. Highlighting the six months of ongoing warfare, Van Hollen pointed to the deaths of 18 US military personnel, hundreds of injuries, and thousands of civilian casualties. He also addressed the sharp rise in the cost of living in the US due to the war’s impact.
“This war must end, RIGHT NOW,” Van Hollen insisted in a statement via X.
Other US lawmakers have launched similar criticisms, describing the military operations against Iran as illegal, prohibitively expensive, and strategically failed. Senior Democratic Senators, such as Chuck Schumer and Elizabeth Warren, have united in calling for an immediate end to the war against Iran.
Schumer, the Democratic leader in the Senate, stated that the war ignited by Trump “has produced nothing but the depletion of American logistical reserves and the weakening of the nation’s military position.” He described it as a “total failure.”
In the US House of Representatives, Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries described the US military operations against Iran as a “major failure.” Meanwhile, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi referred to Trump’s war in Iran as a “fatal mistake,” mockingly renaming the much-touted “Operation Epic Fury” as “Operation Epic Failure.”
Criticism has also emerged from the Republican Party, with US Representative from Kentucky, Thomas Massie, stating that the US has been at war with Iran for six months, despite the 1973 War Powers Resolution requiring troop withdrawal within 90 days without Congressional authorisation.
“We have exceeded the 180-day limit. End this war,” asserted Massie, who previously described the war as Trump’s “greatest and most damaging mistake.”
