U.S. oil giant to open school

BANDUNG: Oil giant, PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia plans to open a polytechnics school in Riau's capital Pekanbaru in September as part of its community development service.

The company's contract to develop and manage the Coastal Plain Pekanbaru (CPP) oil block will expire next year, but has allocated US$7 million to build infrastructure and other facilities for the school.

As part of its operational preparation, the United States company, a joint venture of Chevron and Texaco, has sent 20 newly recruited lecturers to the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) for further training.

"The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Caltex and ITB was signed in Bandung over the weekend," the company said in a statement, released on Saturday. (25)
